Translating Science into Service

The Centre for Epidemic Research and Modelling (CERM) is dedicated to strengthening public health capabilities against epidemics in addition to its role as a leading academic research hub. Our mission extends from building models to the front lines of health policy, embodying a commitment to translating complex science into actionable, real-world impact for communities in Singapore and the region.

During times of crisis, our team acts as an agile and trusted partner to government bodies, providing the on-demand epidemiological modelling and data analysis essential for navigating acute threats like the COVID-19 pandemic. We function as a rapid-response analytical unit, providing the bespoke modelling and strategic insights governments need to navigate the crisis, as we demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to pandemic response, our practice work continues through deep and sustained partnerships. We co-design long-term strategies with agencies like the Ministry of Health, developing innovative forecasting tools for endemic diseases like dengue and providing evidence-based advice to fortify national preparedness for future health challenges, which shifts our countries from a reactive to a proactive state of readiness.

This commitment to service extends to the region. Through our flagship network Modelling Infectious Diseases in Southeast Asia (MIDSEA) and in-country programmes in Cambodia and Lao PDR, we are dedicated to building a vibrant community of practice. By leading training workshops, fostering cross-border collaboration, and mentoring the next generation of quantitative epidemiologists, we help strengthen the collective resilience of the region against infectious disease threats.
