Preston Lim
PhD Student
Preston is a PhD student at the National University of Singapore Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, where his research focuses on modeling approaches to improve the operational effectiveness of mosquito-borne disease control programs.
Beyond his research, Preston works as a software engineer at Google DeepMind, where he applies deep learning technologies for social impact. He was previously in Project Debug at Google, where he worked on software systems to automate the rearing, sex-sorting, and release of Wolbachia mosquitoes to combat mosquito-borne diseases. Prior to that, he was a software engineering manager in the Singapore Government, where he led the implementation of software systems to support the COVID-19 pandemic response.
Outside of science and engineering, Preston occasionally performs professionally as a musical theatre actor. His recent credits include playing Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom! and Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods. He was also the featured male vocal soloist for the recent Lang Lang Plays Disney concert in Singapore.
